Florence has everything - world-class museums, wonderfully preserved palaces, and unforgettable cathedrals. Not to mention the Florentine culture, cuisine and Tuscan wines. Some of the greatest artistic treasures in the world are found in Florence. Major attractions and monuments include the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, The Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Vecchio and the Accademia. If that isn't enough for art lovers, there are also the exceptional art collections at the Pitti Palace and magnificent frescos in the Santa Maria Novella and Santa Croce churches. Florence is the home of Michelangelo and many of his masterpieces can be found throughout the city, including the original marble sculpture of David at the Accademia. An entire day can be spent marveling at Michelangelo's statues, drawings, facades and architectural works proudly on display throughout Florence. Having a holiday flat in Florence provides the opportunity to spend time wandering around the historical streets and feeling, at least for a little while, that Florence is your home. Most holiday rental flats are located in the city centre, close to the major attractions.

The historical centre of Florence is a pedestrian zone, so it is easy to get around the entire city from most rental flats. After a long day of sightseeing, the bus system is very efficient if you do not feel like walking back to your flat. The heart of Florence is the historical IL Duomo district with the famed cathedral featuring Brunelieschi's dome and its crowded plaza. The Uffizi Gallery and Palazzo Medici are also located in this district. Here, you also will find numerous cafes, restaurants and shops. San Marco is another centrally located district. This is where Michelangelo's David is found at the Accademia. Right next to the historical centre along the banks of the Arno is Santa Croce, another popular location for rentals due to the areas shopping and upscale eateries. Santa Croce also includes the Santa Croce Church, resting place of Michelangelo and Galileo. A vacation flat near Ponte Vecchio lets you easily cross the famous Ponte Vecchio and explore the Otrarno district with its local feel, many trattorias and shops. Otramo is the location of the famous Palazzo Pitti, an exquisite palazzo with an extensive art collection and gardens. Also on this side of the bridge are the Boboli Gardens a wonderful place to wander while taking a break from admiring the inside of palaces and museums. Florence is the heart of Tuscany and, thus, food and wine are a major part of the Florentine culture. No matter where you rent a vacation apartment, it is easy to find terrific cafes, trattorias and gelato shops to enjoy.
